50 years since spacecraft first arrived at Mars and sent back the first images showing ancient valleys and canyons on the surface, the story of water on early Mars is growing increasingly complex. Rivers, lakes, and possibly seas existed globally across the planet billions of years ago, with significant implications for the early martian climate. This talk will use recent, high-resolution images of the martian surface to summarise these findings and reveal the intriguing history of our second nearest neighbour.
