On Monday evening, 30 October, the GAS committee held a meeting at the house of our president, Gavin Stacey. Several subjects were discussed. The main focus was on the refurbishment of the telescope, which is coming along very nicely. Chris Hopper, Observatory Director, showed some of the first, high quality images taken by the telescope.
The treasurer's report was read.
In his Secretary's report, John Axtell reported on the loan telescopes, the planned sidewalk astronomy evening, a possible GAS summer barbeque, SAGAS and the outreach work that has been carried out the last few months. Fruitful discussions resulted from John's report.
The webmaster gave a short update on the website overhaul - still lots of work to be done there.
There was also some discussion on how to encourage more interest in the observing evenings. The consensus was that weather conditions have been progressively deteriorating over the last 5 - 10 years. This led to a discussion on light pollution and the results that could be achieved from contacting the local council.
Gavin provided plenty to drink - caffeinated, decaffeinated, non-caffeinated, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. O, yes, and there were snacks too! Thanks, Gavin
